To all who call San Jacinto Assembly home and to all our family and friends outside SJA, a big announcement was made on the weekend of July 5th & 6th, 2008 as nearly 1400 gathered together in attendance.
Pastors Gordon and Nonda brought before the people a progression of events that culminated on Tuesday, July 1st, as Pastor Gordon was appointed and ratified as the new Southern California Assemblies of God District Assistant Superintendent. Pastor Gordon, with great honor and out of obedience, takes on a new role where he will join the team that is taking our District to a whole new level. With his new portfolio he will oversee many arenas within our Southern California District such as World and US Missions, Intercultural Ministries, Teen Challenge, Chi Alpha (University Ministries), Church Ministries, developing ministries to reach our Communities, developing the new Media / Technology arena of Southern California, as well as a few other arenas.
How does this affect SJA?
It is with great excitement, yet heartfelt sadness that they announced their resignation as Pastors of San Jacinto Assembly. Though this resignation may come to some of you as a surprise, to many of us who know our Pastors, we knew it was only a matter of time. Over the last twenty-two years, God has taken SJA through tremendous transformation, vision and direction with Pastors Gordon and Nonda leading the way.
As Pastor Gordon explained that weekend, the Assemblies of God is the largest and fastest growing denomination in the world. They currently encompass over 288,000 churches in over 200 countries with over 57 million adherents and nearly 900 bible schools. As Pastor Gordon takes on this new position in the Assemblies of God, his time and attention are required at the District Office as his focus will be to help the team take our District to new places of impact. With that responsibility comes the necessity of relocating the Houston family to Irvine where they can be more effective in their new role. We ask for you to join us in prayer for the Houstons as they assimilate into their new role, new place of residence and for the transition of their family.
Where does this leave SJA?
SJA has never been in a more exciting place of strength, vision, passion and ability to move forward as God's plan is continually revealed. An amazing Staff, Board Members and Leaders are in place and ready to move forward. Pastor Chris Carrigan has been appointed by the SJA Board to be the Interim Pastor. We are excited to see what God does at SJA over this next season. So join with us and fasten your seatbelts as we take on the next greatest adventure that our God has in store for us as a church. With God, there is never a dull moment, only promises of a hope and a future. So, stay connected, support the vision and continue to "Do what you do" for Him.
We have a community wide celebration being planned where we will all have a chance to show our love and support for the Houston family as they take on this new adventure.
